Meet Helen

“I love to travel, especially if it means exploring a new destination. At this point in my life my son has flown the nest and I'm lucky enough to have a business life that enables me to take more time for travel. So I'm embracing the opportunity to visit even more new places and discover more amazing things to see.

When I travel, I don't just want to be a ‘tourist'. I don't want to follow the hordes ticking off the same-old sights, yet never actually seeing the ‘real' country. I want to meet local people, and talk to them – their stories are fascinating. I want to eat their food, join in with their culture, and – where possible – give a little something back too.

But I do like to be comfortable! I've no desire to go backpacking round Asia staying in dubious hostels for the sake of a ‘real' experience. I want to be safe, and secure, and reasonably relaxed.

Travelling somewhere new can be a fun and enriching time. Getting out of my comfort zone is something I love to do, as is trying something for the first time. But of course there are stresses too, and concerns about the unknown. I want to stretch myself, but not so far away that it's no longer enjoyable.

The best way to deal with any questions is to ask someone who's been there and done it. Often just a little knowledge and reassurance is all we need.

So that's why I'm here. I have so much experience to share! If you've got concerns about your trip, I've probably had them too – and I've found the solutions. I want you to have a truly amazing holiday, by learning from my experiences (and my mistakes). What to wear (and pack) is just the start.

A little research, planning, (and a dose of good luck) can open up all sorts of wonderful travel opportunities you can never plan with a guidebook.

When was the last time you did something for the first time? There's a big world to see out there – don't let anything hold you back!”

Meet my team…

Of course, I've not visited every country in the world yet (though I'm working on it!), so I'm indebted to friends and family who can fill in the blanks.

I also couldn't pull all this together without my web team, who have turned my idea into the resource you see before you.

It all started from an impulse that I just had to get out of my head, but it really is a team effort.
