General Style Tips

  • The same applies in Cyprus as is pretty much throughout the Mediterranean islands - our advice would be to travel light.
  • For most visitors the draw are the glorious beaches so beachwear and sarong, sunhat, sunscreen (we love the Riemann P20 range for 10 hour protection), flip flops and sunglasses are the essentials for the day.
  • The coastline is volcanic so, if you like to explore, diving shoes are a good idea to protect your feet.
  • For the evenings again keep it light and simple - avoid anything too smart, Cyprus really is casual.

What Shoes To Pack

  • Make sure you take comfy footwear for daytime. We love Hotter shoes, for total comfort along with style.
  • Ladies, save your high heels for the evenings. Or why not try the Lindsay Phillips Switch Flops range - using interchangeable shoe and flip-flop bases with snap-on decorations, you can change your look from day to evening in an instant whilst still packing light.
  • Have good comfortable shoes for walking in the Akamas as it's very hot and dusty and flip flops will not do.

Clothing Tips for Women

  • All you need during the day for the pool or beach is swimwear, flip-flops, sunglasses, a sunhat and a sarong or kaftan for lunch at a Taverna.
  • Our advice would be to save your shorts and sarong for the beach; wearing them elsewhere will label you as a tourist and skimpy tight-fitting clothes may get you unwanted attention.
  • A pashmina is a versatile piece that will dress up any outfit, as will some simple accessories.
  • If you're going to visit any religious sites then be sure to cover your shoulders and bare legs - your pashmina can come in handy for this too.

Clothing Tips for Men

  • If you're looking for versatile and stylish beachwear, try the Madda Fella range of shirts, shorts, polos and swimwear.
  • For great versatile travel jackets with multiple pockets including RFID security options, we love the SCOTTeVEST range.

Pack for the Weather

  • It gets hot hot hot in the summer - June, July, August and September - so pack plenty of sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
  • In November, Decemer, January, February, March and April temperatures are lower but still pleasant, averaging around 18 - 20 °C in the day and it gets cooler (8 - 10 °C) at night. Layers are key to coping with the variable temperatures. Be sure to pack a lightweight raincoat, and a travel umbrella will come in handy too.
  • Clever layering is the key to dressing for changeable weather.
  • We love the Weather+ app - it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too - a nice way to remember your trip :) Download for iPad/iPhone or Android

Other Things To Pack

  • A light day sack or beach bag will be ideal to carry all your daytime essentials.
  • If you tend to buy bottled water, consider carrying a Go! Filtered Water Bottle - fill up from any source and get clean, safe drinking water without wasting plastic bottles.
  • Look after your mobile phone with a phone bunjee - it protects against loss, theft and damage.
  • To use electrical gadgets you may need a travel adapter plug, and also a step down voltage converter if your devices are not designed for European voltage (230V).
  • If you're aiming to travel with just carry-on baggage, try the CabinMax soft-sided rucksack - it's light, roomy and has plenty of pockets to keep your stuff organized.
  • Avoid paying unexpected baggage fees - use an accurate luggage scale to ensure you keep within the weight allowance. Don't forget to leave room for souvenirs on the way home! Pottery and lace are good buys from Cyprus.
