Product Review – Vacay Tahiti Crochet Trim Caftan

Vacay Tahiti CaftanAsked by Vacay to test out some of their clothing lines and give our opinion, I decided to try the Tahiti Crochet Trim Caftan.

It looked like a versatile and very easy-to-wear piece, one that would be perfect for beach stays (cover-up over swimwear) but equally at home on any other kind of trip really as you can also wear it as a tunic with jeans, crops or shorts. I could see me wearing it like this at home in the summer too, so it wouldn't be confined to the drawer most of the year as so many ‘holiday' clothes are.

Vacay specialises in designing sets of clothes, which when paired with a couple of wardrobe ‘essentials' can be combined to create numerous different outfits. This caftan is part of their Tahiti Collection, the full range also comprising a black halter neck top, convertible black dress (wear it two ways), a 2-piece jumpsuit and a 2-piece printed maxi dress. Added to a basic white top and white crops, there are 15 different suggested outfits you could wear just by packing this small set of clothes.

The caftan arrived neatly packaged in tissue paper, and I was impressed when I first unwrapped it. It's incredibly lightweight, so perfect for packing if you've got limited space. The main fabric has a ‘crinkle' effect, so no worries at all about it getting creased or needing to be ironed (which is always a plus in my book!). It would dry really quickly too.

The crochet trim is a little more cream than it looks in the Vacay photos, so stands out in contrast to the main white body. I could happily wear it with swimwear around the pool or beach, even though I'm quite body-conscious – it comes to around mid-thigh on me (I'm about 5′ 5″/165cm tall).

But primarily I think I'd wear it more often with leggings or jeans as a casual top (I layered a cami underneath as it's a bit sheer). The trim adds that bit of detail to make it different and bit more special, so would suit either day or evening wear. Teamed with some chunky jewelry would look great on a night out. And it's so light you almost forget you're wearing it, so ideal for keeping cool in hotter climes.

The first person who saw me wearing it said “What a pretty top“, so it must be good!

As an unexpected bonus, Vacay also sent us one of their beach bags, which you receive for free if you buy any of their 5 piece collections.  A bag is a bag, you would think, but it is really nice – again very lightweight even though it feels sturdy and has plenty of room for your day trip essentials. It folds flat so would pack well, but it would make a good in-flight bag too. The rope straps are soft and comfy against your skin, and they're the perfect length to sling over your shoulder. The lining is waterproof so ideal for carrying wet swimwear or towels at the beach.
